According to the NA Office, the committee is scheduled to scrutinise some debatable issues of the draft law amending and supplementing some articles of the Law on Public Investment, and the draft revision of the Law on Tax Management. These drafts had been discussed previously at the parliament’s sixth session in late 2018. The NA Standing Committee will listen to the Government’s report on the outcomes of the collection of public opinions on the draft revised Law on Education. They will also look into issues related to the Vietnam National University-Hanoi project in the city’s Hoa Lac area.
The 49th meeting of the ASEAN National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) opened in the northern province of Quang Ninh on January 14, starting a series of activities within the framework of the 2019 ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF). Nearly 200 delegates and leaders of NTOs of ASEAN and partner countries will discuss measures to promote sustainable tourism development in the region and specify the tourism sector’s contributions to gross domestic product and international tourist arrivals. Speaking at the event, General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh said tourism is an inevitable driving force of not only ASEAN member states, but also the world. Khanh added that the sector contributes to raising political and cultural understanding as well as promoting bilateral and multilateral cooperation among regional countries in particular. The ATF 2019 took on the theme “ASEAN: The Power of One”, towards the goal of an ASEAN with “One Vision, One Identity, One Community”. The five-day forum also affords Vietnam a chance to popularise the image of Vietnam’s tourism in the region and the world, introducing the outstanding tourist products of Vietnam and Quang Ninh in particular, especially in the realms of beach leisure, MICE and cuisine tourism. At the event, Son stressed that the Party and State of Vietnam consistently follows and improves its laws and policies towards respecting and ensuring citizens’ right to freedom of religion and beliefs. At the same time, Vietnamese authorities also pay attention to the needs of the Vietnam Catholic Church and create favourable conditions for the activities of the Vietnamese Catholic community. He lauded growing ties between Vietnam and the Vatican, especially through meetings between leaders of Vietnam and the Holy See, such as permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh’s visit in October during which he met with Pope Francis and Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin. Both sides maintained effective information sharing mechanisms to promote mutual understanding and deal with existing issues. The host suggested that the Holy See instruct the Vietnamese Catholic community to contribute to national development and improve the imagery of Catholicism in Vietnam, thus boosting bilateral ties. The 35th meeting convened in Ha Noi on October 2, 2017, under the chair of Vietnamese Minister of Construction Pham Hong Ha and Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz. At the meeting, both sides pledged to create favorable conditions to speed up the implementation of investment projects, and discuss cooperation possibilities in potential aspects such as tourism and medical tourism.
